Completely out of US distribution, this gripping drama of a complicated marriage is based on the story of Ingmar Bergman's parents, who met in 1908, ten years before his birth. Directed by Bille August and written for the screen by Bergman from his own novel, this beautiful film hasn't been seen in America for several years and makes an interesting companion piece to Fanny and Alexander.
