Filmmaker Samantha Grant in Person
Wednesday, April 23, 7:00
Filmmaker Samantha Grant will present a special screening of A Fragile Trust, the shocking story of Jayson Blair, the most infamous serial plagiarist of our time, and how he unleashed the massive scandal that rocked The New York Times and the entire world of journalism. In 2003 Blair was caught plagiarizing and fabricating details in dozens of stories. The fact that he is African-American was emphasized repeatedly as accounts of the "Blair Affair" served up sordid tales of deception, drug abuse, racism, mental illness, hierarchy, white guilt and power struggles. Featuring exclusive interviews with everyone involved, including former Executive Editor Howell Raines as well as Blair himself, A Fragile Trust recounts the story while exploring deeper themes of power, ethics and responsibility in the mainstream media. Producer/Director: Samantha Grant (US 2013) 76 min. plus discussion.
