Dean Spanley

One Week Only!
Opens Friday, December 27
In honor of the great Peter O'Toole, we offer an exclusive engagement of this 2008 gem little known in America. Set in Edwardian England, this warm and funny story focuses on the relationship between Fisk Junior (Jeremy Northam) and his emotionally distant father Fisk Senior (O'Toole). After attending a swami's lecture on the transmigration of souls, they meet a soldier of fortune named Wrather (Bryan Brown) and a vicar named Dean Spanley (Sam Neill), and over a rare and liberating bottle of Tokay, Dean Spanley begins to reminisce about his own past life as a dog. This charming and quirky tale has a great deal to say about fathers and sons and contains enough dog love to make you want to chase rabbits when exiting the theater. Writer: Alan Sharp, based on My Talks with Dean Spanley by Lord Dunsany. Director: Toa Fraser. (New Zealand/UK 2008) 100 min.
