Directed by two-time Academy Award winner Barbara Kopple, this documentary follows the personal journey of actress-model Mariel Hemingway, the granddaughter of Ernest Hemingway, as she strives for a deeper understanding of the suicide and mental illness that have afflicted so many of her family members, including her supermodel sister, Margaux Hemingway, and her oldest sister, artist Joan "Muffet" Hemingway. An intimate portrait interwoven with archival footage of the family's legacy, the film focuses on Mariel coming to terms with the tragedies that have shaped the course of her life, as she pursues a healthy lifestyle, campaigns publicly for suicide prevention, and bears witness to the human spirit's ability to rise above the sadness of our past to find a happier tomorrow. Director: Barbara Kopple. (US 2013) 100 min.
