Big Sur

Opens Friday, November 1
Based on the 1962 novel by American literary icon Jack Kerouac, Big Sur recounts the events surrounding Kerouac's brief sojourns to a cabin in Bixby Canyon, Big Sur, owned by his friend and fellow Beat poet Lawrence Ferlinghetti. Jean-Marc Barr stars as the middle-aged Kerouac, tormented by self-doubt and alcoholism, and searching for solace and inspiration at a fog-banked cabin in the majestic wilderness of Big Sur. He tentatively embarks on a relationship with Billie (Kate Bosworth), the mistress of his friend Neal Cassady (Josh Lucas), and ricochets between his country retreat and crowded San Francisco, where his other friends include Ferlinghetti (Anthony Edwards), Michael McClure (Balthazar Getty) and Carolyn Cassady (Radha Mitchell). With Henry Thomas, Stana Katic. Writer/Director: Michael Polish. (US 2013) 100 min.
