This unique documentary by the Oscar-nominated Canadian filmmaker/actor Sarah Polley (Away from Her) is also a detective story that proves some of the most fantastic mystery stories can originate within our own family... particularly if it's a family of storytellers. Polley interviews her father and siblings about their family mythology, especially around her deceased mother Diane, and she elicits refreshingly candid, if mostly contradictory, answers to the same questions. The film reflects the essence of family- always complicated, warmly messy and fiercely loving- while acknowledging, in profound and funny ways, that individuals have their own specific versions of pivotal events. Critic Guy Lodge wrote in Variety: "The alternately playful and elegiac Stories We Tell is wholly of a piece with her fiction work, and just as rewarding." Rated PG-13. Writer/Director: Sarah Polley.
