2013 Academy Award Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress Nominations!
Ends Thursday
Joaquin Phoenix, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Amy Adams have all received Golden Globe nominations for their parts in filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson's vividly atmospheric portrait of drifters and seekers in post-World War II America. Phoenix gives a remarkable, full-throttle performance as Freddie, a Navy veteran who arrives home from war in psychological ruins, until he is tantalized by "The Cause" and its charismatic leader Lancaster Dodd (Hoffman) and ultimately accepted into its inner circle, run by Dodd with his wife Peggy (Adams). This provocative and controversial film has inspired strong reactions; in The New York Times, critic A.O. Scott wrote, "It is a movie about the lure and folly of greatness that comes as close as anything I've seen recently to being a great movie." With Laura Dern. Rated R for sexual content, graphic nudity and language. Writer/Director: Paul Thomas Anderson. (US 2012) 144 min.
