Detropia

Director Rachel Grady and producer Craig Atkinson appearing in person on Saturday, September 29 at 7:00 PM show
Opens Friday, September 28
Once an industrial utopia and the birthplace of the middle class, Detroit is today on the brink of bankruptcy, having lost 25% of its population and 50% of its manufacturing jobs in the past 10 years. Racial tension, globalization, lack of innovation and greed have led to a moment of truth for Detroit, and how the Motor City reboots itself will set an example for the entire country. Heidi Ewing and Rachel Grady's artful documentary is a cinematic tapestry chronicling the lives of several Detroiters trying to survive the D and make sense of what is happening to their city. In January the Los Angeles Times wrote, "Of all the Sundance films tackling the gap between the richest 1% and the rest of the nation, Detropia stands out for how it encapsulates the causes and potential solutions." Producers/Directors: Heidi Ewing, Rachel Grady. (US 2012) 85 min.
