Filmmakers Carlen Altman & Alex Ross Perry in Person
Sunday, June 3, 7:00 pm
Proving that quality can trump budget, the writers of this disarming dark comedy take the lead roles themselves. Carlen Altman stars as JR, an aspiring news-anchor with no job prospects, who enlists her brother Colin (Alex Ross Perry) for a road trip to retrieve her things from the house of her former lover, who also happens to be her former professor. Problem is, these grown-up kids do not get along, but neither do they appear to get along with anyone else along the way. The result is an often zany, sometimes melancholy "comedic symphony of disappointment and forgiveness," rendered- despite its title- in strikingly textured black-and-white photography. Also playing a week at the Roxie in San Francisco, The Color Wheel was voted "Best Undistributed Film of 2011" by both the Village Voice and IndieWire. Writers: Carlen Altman, Alex Ross Perry. Producer/Director: Alex Ross Perry. (US 2011) 83 min. plus discussion.
