The surprise sensation of this year's Sundance Film Festival was this mischievous meta-documentary signed by clandestine British street artist Banksy. Narrated by Rhys Ifans, it's a raucous and hilarious tour through the guerilla world of graffiti artists that starts through the eyes and enthusiasm of fan/acolyte Thierry Guetta, at least until Banksy turns the camera on Guetta and his own rebirth as street artist Mr. Brainwash. With onscreen observations by artists Shepard Fairey, Space Invader and the enigmatic Banksy himself (incognito, of course), Exit Through the Gift Shop is a breathlessly entertaining examination of a cultural phenomenon that also raises strange and troubling questions about the nature of art and its relation to media and publicity. How much of it is true? You'll have to see for yourself! Producer/Director: Banksy. (UK 2010) 87 min.
