Mr. Hulot's Holiday (Les Vacances de Monsieur Hulot)
Friday, January 15 to Thursday, January 21
Jacques Tati's most celebrated comedy, and his first starring as the endearing eccentric Mr. Hulot, returns in a beautiful restoration that debuted at Cannes in May. This wildly funny satire of seaside vacationers includes brilliantly choreographed gags about boats, dogs, tennis and other hazards of leisure. Filmed in 1952 in Saint-Marc-sur-Mer, a small French resort on the Atlantic coast, the farce was gently revised by Tati over the years, and this definitive version includes additional footage he added in the late 1970s. Minimal dialogue in French with English subtitles. Director: Jacques Tati. (France 1953) 88 min.
The restoration of M. Hulot's Holiday, fully funded and managed by Fondation Groupama Gan and Thomson Foundation, with les Films de Mon Oncle (rights owners) has been made at Technicolor Creative Services (Thomson) in Los Angeles and with the support of Cinémathèque française.
