Piaf - Her Story... Her Songs Raquel Bitton in Person
Sunday, July 12 6:30pm
French jazz singer Raquel Bitton returns to the Rafael to present and discuss a rare 35mm screening of her beloved concert-documentary, featuring her internationally acclaimed performance tribute to legendary French singer Edith Piaf. In the film Bitton performs Piaf's most famous songs and takes us on a moving and emotional journey through the great artist's tempestuous life. Woven into the filmed concert is a luncheon in Paris, hosted by Bitton, in which many of Piaf's associates, friends and family share their memories of the "Little Sparrow," who died tragically more than 40 years ago. These include Michel Rivgauche and Francis Lai, two of Piaf's composers, as well as Marcel Cerdan, Jr., son of the boxing champion who was her greatest love. Executive Producer: Fred Fuchs. Producers: George Elder, Gerald Prolman. Music Arranger: Bob Holloway. Director: George Elder. Writer/Artistic Director: Raquel Bitton. (US/Canada/France 2003) 94 min.
Following the screening and discussion, several of Bitton's CDs and DVDs will be available for sale, including her latest album, Boleros.
