Under the Bombs

During a cease-fire in the Lebanese and Israeli conflict of 2006, a modern Shiite woman and Christian taxi driver make their way through the war-torn countryside in search of the woman's son. Confronted with the devastation of war, they begin to see through their differences and establish an emotional bond as they face the troubled future. A hybrid of documentary and fiction, Under The Bombs was shot entirely on location during the time of the conflict. Using an improvised script and a cast comprised primarily of real refugees, journalists and soldiers, director Philippe Aractingi is the first to explore the conflict in the human terms of these fictionalized characters, offering a vividly authentic portrait of war.
