For Your Consideration [Venezuela]
Friday, January 16, 9:00
Desperate for cash, Magaly enters a Marilyn Monroe look-alike contest with a $25,000 prize. As the contest becomes more competitive, she seeks the counsel of a transvestite who believes he is the actress reincarnated to transform her into the blonde bombshell. What starts as a simple game, little by little evolves into Magaly´s own alienation as an individual. Her identity is lost to the artificial image, much like the starlet she emulates. The glamorous iconography of Marilyn Monroe set against the gritty streets of Caracas serves as a vivid allegory to explore the themes of national identity and personal self-actualization. In Spanish with English Subtitles. Writer/Director: Alejandro Bellame Palacios. (Venezuela) 85 mins.
