Irving Thalberg's MGM
Classic Film Series
October 29 - November 2

To celebrate the publication of
Mark A. Vieira's new
book,
Hollywood Dreams Made Real: Irving Thalberg's M-G-M, the
Rafael presents some rare treasures from this legendary producer. Called Hollywood's
"Boy Wonder," Irving Thalberg was running Universal Pictures at
the age of 20 and M-G-M at 23. From 1924 to his untimely death in 1936, he supervised
more than 400 M-G-M films and sculpted the star images of Greta Garbo, Joan
Crawford, Norma Shearer, Clark Gable, Lon Chaney and Jean Harlow, among others.
Thalberg also pioneered many of today's filmmaking practices, including
story conferences, sneak previews and the resulting retakes.
Mark A.
Vieira's beautiful and richly illustrated new volume tells the
story of Thalberg's short but productive life and confirms his role as
the prime architect of the Hollywood studio system. Vieira will sign copies
of the book, available for purchase at the Rafael during his appearances on
October 29 and 30.
