Film Arts Festival pays its first visit to the Rafael with this stirring documentary
that Variety called “an elegy for decency and true democracy in American
politics.” One Bright Shining Moment retraces George McGovern’s
bold, grassroots and doomed presidential campaign of 1972. Narrated by Amy
Goodman with firsthand accounts from McGovern himself, the film has
a riveting cast including Gore Vidal, Gloria Steinem, Warren Beatty,
Dick Gregory, Howard Zinn and many more. Director: Stephen
Vittoria. (US 2005) 125 min.
21st Film Arts Festival is produced by the Film Arts Foundation, a non-profit
organization based in San Francisco that provides support for independent filmmakers.
Opening November 3 at Kanbar Hall in San Francisco’s Jewish Community
Center, the Festival continues at the Roxie Cinema and concludes at the Rafael.
